Dashcam footage shows lorry skidding across expressway

Videos circulating online showed the terrifying moment the lorry suddenly veered out of control while travelling on the expressway.

Dashcam footage from a nearby vehicle appeared to show the lorry initially travelling along the leftmost lane before skidding diagonally across several lanes toward the rightmost side of the expressway.

At the same time, the motorcyclist was travelling along the rightmost lane when the lorry crossed into his path.

The impact caused the rider to fall onto the road while debris scattered across the expressway. A car travelling behind the motorcycle was seen braking in time and narrowly avoiding the fallen rider and damaged vehicles.

The footage has since sparked discussions online, with many netizens commenting on the dangerous road conditions caused by the heavy rain.

Some social media users speculated that the slippery road surface may have contributed to the lorry losing traction, while others urged motorists to reduce speed and maintain safe distances during wet weather.

Rainy weather raises road safety concerns

Singapore has experienced periods of heavy rainfall over the past week, resulting in slippery road conditions across several expressways and major roads.

Accidents involving skidding vehicles are not uncommon during sudden downpours, especially for heavier vehicles such as lorries and trucks which may require longer braking distances.

Road safety experts have previously advised motorists to slow down during wet weather, avoid sudden braking and ensure that vehicle tyres remain in good condition to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

Motorcyclists are also generally considered more vulnerable during rainy conditions due to reduced tyre grip and visibility issues on expressways.

No further details have been released regarding the condition of the injured motorcyclist as investigations continue.
