A netizen shared a video of a bottle of Morrisons chilli flakes, pouring it onto a plate and showing a bunch of what appears to be maggots wriggling among the flakes.
FairPrice has since removed the chilli flakes from their shelves as a form of precautionary measure, according to STOMP.
The worms seen in the video appeared to be maggots and there were also what seemed to be larvae that were hatched from insect eggs.
The netizen said that they bought the Morrisons brand of chilli flakes from a FairPrice Finest outlet at Marine Parade Central on 27 January.
He said that when he poured the chilli flakes onto their pizzas, which they made at home (the pizza), they were shocked to see “so many worms wriggling on the plates.”
What’s even more horrifying is that his family members had eaten the pizzas without noticing the worms on their food.
What appears to be white insect larvae could also be seen crawling among the flakes, along the wriggling worms.
The netizen added that it was “horrifying” and “grotesque”.
FairPrice has since recalled the product from their shelves, and said that they “apologise for the unpleasant experience and would like to thank the customer for bringing this to our attention.”
They added that they “take product quality very seriously and are conducting an investigation into this matter. As a precautionary measure, we have also removed the product from our shelves.”
They have also issued a full refund to the customer and are in contact with him to follow up on the incident.”
