It’s raining maggots!!
So, we decided to go to 18 Chefs after realising that the restaurant we chose earlier had a massive long queue. My parents-in-law had just driven 6 hours to reach and obviously tired, so just want to eat anything and retire for the night. Woohoo! There were seats for us immediately!
Halfway through eating, I was talking to Jason Seow when I saw something moving on the table from the corner of my eye. I saw a cluster on the table that looks like petals of baby’s breath.
On closer look, they were moving and were maggots!! I looked left and right to see where they came from and suddenly more were appearing on the table, some went into our food.
At this point, both of us looked up at the black ceiling and to our greatest horror, there were clusters of maggots raining down from the aircon vent!!
And yes, the aircon vent had partially become white, presumably filled with the maggots that rained upon us.
Of course, we told the waiter (looks like student working part time) and to his credit, he swiftly changed us to another table and offered to replace our food, before telling his manager what happened.
The manager went over to the table to see the maggots. By right, they should cordon off that table right? No, the manager brought in another group of diners to sit at the exact same table.
During the whole duration of our meal there, the restaurant manager did not even bother to talk to us or offer her apologies for our horrific dining experience.
It happened between 6.20pm to 7.30pm on 21 April 2023 at table 34 at The Clementi Mall branch.
I’m not sure whether it’s the restaurant’s or the mall’s responsibility to ensure they have their aircon serviced regularly and to ensure that the restaurant is clean and safe to eat in. This is clearly unacceptable!!
