A Facebook user shared how he was allegedly attacked by another man for refusing to hold the lift for him, claiming that he was punched in the face and attacked with a baby stroller.
Here is what he said
“I parked my car (I’m a local guy, this guy assumed I’m a foreigner), and was waiting for the lift with this family. I entered first and stood in a corner inside the lift as the family continued to enter behind me. I continue to read the news on my phone.
His wife and mother (I guess) entered subsequently.
Once the door closed, he shouted at me with a commanding tone “oooi, you cannot hold the lift”? I felt so disrespectful and replied, “do I owe you? Your mom and wife outside who can hold the lift for you what.”
This guy suddenly becomes very aggressive and approached me to attack but his mom held him. As soon as the lift door opened, he punch my face.
This is an unprovoked assault. I called for the police and he continue to attack me with a baby trolly causing some minor bruises.
The worst part is that he hurled racist insults at me *alleged insults redacted* and continue to say that he is Singaporean, he served NS, hence he has all the right to do anything here, “who are you? Which country you from?”.
If Singaporean, can assault anyone on the street? Can hurl racist comments?
I could take him down, max within 5min, I’m a gym kaki for 10 years. Yet, my behaviour reflects my parents upbringing. How about this guy?”

- He may have anger issues. And what happened , that made him so pissed off? what had u done? I want to understand both sides of the story.
- Are u sure you didnt show a bad attitude first? If u hadn’t have a heckcare attitude abt keeping the lift door open for him, especially if u were standing by the lift controls, he wouldnt be upset and yelled at you because the door closed on him. You both are probably at fault. And bad attitudes bring impolite reply, and thus provoking him to punch you. 无风不起浪 The saying goes.. if there is no wind, there are no waves. Surely something unhappy happened that caused him to suddenly react rudely n even to punch you. It takes two to start an argument/ fight.
- Its always polite to help hold the lift while other passengers are entering or exiting. Sometimes i get a very warm thank you and sometimes i got treated like a lift attendent. Whatever it is, so long I am happy, it doesnt matter how others behaved..
- Lift priority for children/old people. You got no common sense ah, eyes closed issit cannot see people coming in, your upbringing never teach you manners? To HELP hold the lift?
