Facebook user Alicia Foo shared photos of joss papers being strewn all over the roadside at Golden Mile, on the last day of the Hungry Ghost Month yesterday (26 August).
She appealed to the public to show appreciation to the cleaners who have to clean up the joss papers and give them an ang pao.
Joss papers, mandarin oranges, beer cans and the disposables from the offerings could be seen strewn all over the side of what appears to be a multistorey carpark.
Joss papers were also seen in the photos being burned in the joss paper bins, and loose pieces of the joss papers could also be seen strewn on the bushes.
Here is what she said
Last day of 7th month. Sweepers headaches at Golden Mile. Appreciate them and give them an ang pow to show gratitude for clearing your mess!

- Respect culture, custom and believe. But Government need to change best system for neighbours. With Covid no good for health as well. We are truly suffocating.
- With due respect, think of your neighbours and cleaners who have to endured all this especially the cleaners. Didn’t the Town Council provide bin to burn the paper and strict guidelines.
- Fine them for littering
- Oh today is last day of 7th month?
- Aren’t there joss paper bins provided, why are the joss papers all over the place?
