Man Breaks Into Ex-Girlfriend’s Home Over PlayStation, Assaults Her Male Friend

A 36-year-old Singaporean man has been fined S$5,000 after breaking into his former girlfriend’s home to retrieve his PlayStation console before assaulting another man who was inside the unit.

The incident happened after the man, Lincoln Lim Jun Hong, discovered that his ex-girlfriend had invited a male friend over to play video games. What began as a confrontation over their relationship eventually escalated into a physical attack that left the victim with multiple injuries, including a fractured thumb.

Lim pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt on Aug 17. Two additional charges relating to trespassing into the home with the intention of causing annoyance were taken into consideration during sentencing.

He has since paid the fine, avoiding a default jail term of 25 days.

Man Used Old Door Password To Enter Ex-Girlfriend’s Home

The court heard that the incident took place on the night of Feb 19, 2023, after Lim’s former girlfriend, Jean Lia Li Ling, told him she intended to end their relationship.

Lim still knew the password to Lia’s electronic door lock from their time together and used it to enter her home without permission.

His stated reason for entering was to retrieve his PlayStation console, which he believed was still inside the unit.

However, when he entered the home, he saw another man, Baxter Chan Zu He, sitting on the sofa. Chan had been invited by Lia to her home to play video games.

Lim questioned Lia about Chan’s presence and asked about their relationship. Lia explained that Chan was only there to play games, but Lim was not satisfied with the explanation.

The disagreement continued both inside and outside the home before Lim eventually left.

Argument Escalated Into Physical Fight

Lim later returned to the unit and confronted Chan directly, demanding to know his relationship with Lia.

Chan did not respond to his questioning, which caused Lim to become increasingly agitated.

The confrontation soon turned violent, with Lim punching Chan multiple times in the head, face and ribs.

According to court documents, Lim pinned Chan down on the sofa and threw several punches towards his head. Chan attempted to protect himself by raising his arms to block the attacks.

The assault continued when Lim picked up a plastic bar stool and threw it at Chan, striking him.

After leaving the home, Lim returned once more to question Chan before eventually leaving for good.

During the incident, Lia contacted her mother for assistance, and a police report was later made regarding Lim’s behaviour at the residence.

Victim Suffered Fractured Thumb And Other Injuries

Following the assault, Chan was taken to hospital where doctors found that he had suffered several injuries.

His left thumb was fractured and required immobilisation with a splint. He also suffered bruising on his forehead, left elbow and left shoulder blade, as well as a cut on one of his fingers.

The court was also informed that Lim had a previous conviction involving a fight at Marquee Club in September 2022, where he was involved in an altercation with three people and had punched, kicked and pushed a woman.

The latest case highlights the serious consequences of allowing disputes following relationship breakdowns to escalate into unlawful entry and violence. Under Singapore law, offences involving assault and unlawful entry can result in criminal penalties, including fines and imprisonment depending on the severity of the circumstances.
