According to a media release, a 43-year-old man collapsed in court after being sentenced to 3 years and 7 months jail with 9 strokes of the cane for molesting his niece and brother in law.
The man was seen crying and later passed out after hearing his sentence on the 19 Jun 2020. The man passed out for at least 5 minutes before officers hold him up and lead him away.
The accuse pleaded guilty to 6 charges of molestation including insulting a woman modesty.
The accuse has sexually abused his 16-year-old niece between Oct 2017 and Jan 2018. Prior to the abuse, he also sexually abused his 17-year-old brother-in-law and performed a sex act on him back in 2011.
Treadmill Project
In 2017, the accuse has approached his niece by asking her if she wants to earn money. The accuse told his niece that his company will pay her for running on the treadmill for 15 minutes. After his niece accepted the offer, the accuse then bring her to his apartment and requested her to take off her clothes for measurement.
The accuse then proceed to take some measurement before touching her private parts. The girl later shared her encounter with her friends and they advised her to inform her parents about the incident.
However, the girl did not inform her parents as she was afraid that her parents would not believe her and scold her for being foolish.
In 2018, the accuse had used the same excuse to approach his niece again and this time the accuse forced his niece to give him and a handjob on a public bus while on the way to his office. Upon reaching his office, the accuse brought his niece to a handicap toilet and asked her to strip for measurements before massaging her breast with hand cream. The accuse then film the process with his mobile phone.
On another day, the accuse again molested his niece in his car. After the incident, the girl made a police report against her uncle on 22 Feb 2018. The accuse was arrested on the following day.
S$50 to keep it a secert
In 2011, the accuse has approached his teenage brother-in-law and asked him for a sperm sample before molesting him. The accuse then pass his brother-in-law S$50 and a pack of cigarette to ask him to keep the incident as a secret.
His brother-in-law decided to report the incident to the police after he learned that the accuse had done the same to another victim.
Court Hearing
During his court hearing, the prosecutor has requested the court to sentence the accuse to 3 years 7 months jail with 10 strokes of the cane. However, the accuse’s lawyer asked for a shorter sentence of 17 months of jail with 2 strokes of the cane.
The accuse’s lawyer has provided a psychiatrist’s report, stating that the accuse has suffered from persistent depressive disorder after he was sexually abused during his teenage time. The prosecutor then argued that the accuse was inconsistent after having an exchange with another psychiatrist form the Institute of Mental Health.
Hence, this has caused the judge to have some reservation about the psychiatrist’s report provided.
According to the law, the accuse could face up to 2 years of jail, fined, caned or any combination of the penalties for each of his molestation charge that he is facing.
