I was a new employee at a small company. I had been working there for just a few months when I found out that I had been fired. I was shocked, confused, and angry.
I had no idea what I had done wrong.
It turns out the reason was me using my company credit card to pay for entertainment expenses at a KTV.
I had taken a few of my friends and potential customers out for a night of singing and had charged the expenses to the company credit card. I thought I was doing nothing wrong and that it was okay to use the credit card for entertainment purposes.
Little did I know that it was against company policy to use the company credit card for entertainment expenses. It was a policy that I had never read or heard about. I thought I was doing something nice for my friends and was completely unaware that it was against the rules.
The joke was I secured one of the biggest customer the company has gotten this year through my methods.
My boss found out about the charges and immediately confronted me about it. He asked me why I used the company credit card for entertainment purposes and told me that I had broken the company policy. He said that I should have known better and that I should have been more responsible with the company credit card.
I was embarrassed and ashamed. I had no idea that I had done something wrong. I apologized to my boss and told him that I would never do something like that again. However, it was too late. He had already made the decision to fire me.
I was devastated. I had worked so hard to get the job and now I was out of work. Not only was I out of a job but I had also lost a lot of money. I was unable to pay back the company for the entertainment expenses and was now facing financial hardship.
I had no choice but to set up my own business through my girlfriend’s name and I pulled all the customers to my side.
Two months later called me to come back as their sales was affected. I told him “F Off” and I hanged up the phone.
