A man supplied prescription drugs such as codeine cough syrup and sleeping pills to a man in order to earn a quick buck.
44-year-old Chan Weng Wah was holding a CEO position of two clinics located in Little India. He is not a doctor and he has no right to give out these medications.
Investigations revealed that he had profit over $83,959 from selling the medications, he did so knowing the fact that the medications would be resold to drug addicts.
Straits Times reported that Chan was a director at Healthlink Medical.
When and how did it happen?
The illegal transactions took place between July 2018 and December 2019, in the course of over 1 and a half years he supplied over 813 Liters of codeine and 4,100 sleeping pills to a man.
In July 2018, Chan took a loan of $15,000 from Mr Ho and in return, he would supply the medications to the man. Each transaction yielded Chan a profit of $500 and he would provide a few litres of codeine to Ho.
Ho would then resell the codeine to drug addicts in Yishun.
The incident came to light after HSA enforcement officers realised that the clinic was placing an abnormally large amount of orders for the controlled medications.
Chan pleaded guilty to 19 charges and he was sentenced to 48 weeks jail and a fine of $20,000.
