A 43-year-old man was sentenced to 7 days of jail after pleading guilty to an offence of deliberately wounding the racial feeling of others. It was reported that the man has hurled racial insult toward an off-duty police officer and caused him distress.
The incident happened on 06 Jun 2019, the police officer was with his family going for their regular visiting for Hari Raya Puasa. The officer drove to a petrol station to pump petrol. While waiting in the queue he was horned by the accused who was trying to enter the petrol station as well.
After the accused was ignore he drove his car to the left and stopped his car beside the officer’s vehicle. He then alights from his car furiously and confronted the officer and hurled racial insults at him.
The police were later alerted.
According to the law, anyone convicted of deliberately wounding the racial feeling of others could be jailed for up to 3 years and fine.
