MAN JAILED FOR SMUGGLING AIRSOFT RIFLES IN SG FROM MALAYSIA

Singaporean Joel Lim Su-Ming was sentenced to 12 weeks jail and fined $10,000 for smuggling 2 airsoft rifles and a foldable karambit knife, while the buyer of the goods Lee Choon Ming was given 2 weeks jail and fined $6,000.

The smuggler Lim, was caught at Woodlands Checkpoint after trying to smuggle airsoft rifles from Malaysia. It was stated that Lim had purchased the rifles from a shop in Johor Bahru. He bought an M4A1 Carbine Assault Rifle and an HK416 Assault Rifle. The rifles were stripped and disassembled and the parts were hidden under the driver’s seat, the from the passenger seat, and in a black bag.

When he was caught, he admitted to officers that he would sell his products on various platforms such as Wechat and Caoursell. He would buy it from Malaysia before selling it to customers in Singapore to earn a quick profit.

For importing arms, Lim could have been jailed for up to three years, fined up to S$10,000, or both. For possessing arms without a licence, Lee could have been jailed for up to three years, fined up to S$5,000, or both.
