MAN JAILED FOR SPEEDING & CRASHING INTO PEDESTRIANS IN CBD

According to a media release, a 27-year-old man was sentenced to 15 weeks of jail after he had crashed into pedestrians in the Central Business District (CBD). The man was driving at 102 km/hr while trying to overtake another driver. He has been banned from driving for fours years.

The man was charged with two counts of grievous hurt by a rash act and one count of causing hurt by a rash act.

The accident happened on the 15 Apr 2019. It has caused two women aged 35 and 37 trapped under his vehicle. Another 40-year-old woman leg was run over by the vehicle. All three victims were taken to the hospital.

The man has pleaded guilty to his charges and will begin to serve his sentence on the 12 Oct 2020.

According to the law, for causing grievous hurt by a rash act, the man could be jailed for up to 4 years, fined up to $10,000 or both. For causing hurt by a rash act, the man could be jailed for up to 1 year, fined up to $5,000 or both.
