On Monday, September 11th, a 47-year-old motorcyclist, Lee Boon Tiam, met with a tragic accident along Woodleigh following a fatal collision with a car.
He was on his way home to celebrate his birthday, as his family waited for him at home with a birthday feast – but he never made it home.
A Birthday Turned Tragic
According to Shin Min Daily News, Lee Boon Tiam, a hardworking deliveryman, had been looking forward to celebrating his special day with his beloved family. The day had been set aside for his birthday feast, a joyous occasion eagerly anticipated by his wife, children, and loved ones.
In a touching gesture, his family had prepared a “Superman cake” for Boon Tiam, a symbol of the superhero they considered him to be in their lives.
The Fateful Accident
As daylight waned and evening approached, tragedy struck. At around 8 p.m., Lee Boon Tiam was involved in a severe traffic accident. The collision shattered the hopes and dreams of a family awaiting his return.
As Lee Yongsen, Boon Tiam’s son, waited anxiously for his father’s return, an ominous call disrupted the tranquility of the evening. A stranger’s voice delivered the heartbreaking news – his father had been in a traffic accident.
A Race Against Time
Urged by the caller, the family rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where Lee Boon Tiam was receiving medical attention. The severity of his condition became painfully clear – he had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and required immediate surgery.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, fate had a different plan. Lee Boon Tiam passed away at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12th, roughly 24 hours after the tragic accident.
The Agony of Loss
The sudden and unexpected loss of Lee Boon Tiam sent shockwaves through his family, but it was his wife who bore the brunt of this heart-wrenching tragedy. The couple’s profound closeness made this loss particularly agonizing.
Lee Yongsen, the 23-year-old son, expressed disbelief at the turn of events. He emphasized that his father had always been a cautious rider, making the accident even more perplexing and devastating for the family.
Despite having some photographs of the accident scene, the family is still grappling with unanswered questions about the incident.
In an attempt to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the accident, Lee Yongsen has turned to social media, appealing for any available footage or information. The hope is that this outreach might provide some closure, as the driver involved did not have a dashcam installed in their vehicle.
Farewell and Final Respects
As the Woodleigh community mourns the loss of a dedicated and beloved member, Lee Boon Tiam’s wake will be held in Ang Mo Kio. The final farewell will take place on Saturday, September 16th, in the afternoon, when he will be cremated.
In a poignant reminder of the fragility of life, this tragedy serves as a sobering lesson. It underscores the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones, for no one can predict the twists and turns that life may bring.
