
Jeffrey Tan Junjie, 31, lost his life after he was assaulted by a group of men in Clarke Quay.
His assailant, Fino Foo Zhi Peng, 28, was sentenced to 29 months of jail with three strokes of the cane. He pleaded guilty to one count each of assault and rioting earlier this year.
The incident happened on 17 Apr 2017, Foo was driving off from a multi-storey car park with his group of friends. They were reported to be in three different cars at that time. Tan was also at the same car park and when the last car drove pass him, Tan kicked the rear of the last car.
It was when the assault happened. Foo who was a passenger in the last car rushed out and punched Tan in the face which caused him to fall to the ground. Shortly, the rest of Foo’s group alighted from their vehicles. Among them, Allan Ng Wei Wen, 34, was armed with a metal rod.
While Tan’s friend Lim Soon Leng tried to help him, Ng assaulted Lim with the metal rod in his hand. Soon, Xie Hui another friend of Tan stepped in. Similarly, he was also assaulted by Foo and his gang.
The assaulted only ended after someone from Foo’s group shouted: “Let’s Go”.
Aside from Foo, the rest of the group who were involved in the assault were also sentenced yesterday (16 Nov).
