It was mid-year and I was expecting to receive my performance bonus. I knew I had worked hard and had put in extra effort compared to the others.
I had achieved more, met more targets, and produced better results.
But it seemed like the company had forgotten this fact, as I received the same bonus as the other employees. It was a big slap in the face for me, as I had worked so hard for it. I felt like my hard work had been in vain.
I was angry and frustrated, but I tried to keep my emotions in check. I was determined to not let this situation define me and instead find a way to make things right.
So I decided to speak to my manager and tell him how I felt. I was honest and direct, and I explained that I felt I deserved more for my hard work and dedication. I told him that I had put in extra effort compared to the others and that my results were better.
My manager listened to me and agreed that I had done a great job. He said he would look into the situation and get back to me.
Days become weeks, weeks become months.
Typical Singaporean lan jiao SME, always like that follow-up thing always follow up halfway. If I don’t go kpkb nothing gets done.
Only after making a lot of noise, I was given half a month more extra bonus.
So I took the bonus and started looking for a new job at the same time.
Hard work don’t pay off
From this experience, I learned that hard work and commitment really don’t pay off. Even if you stay persistent and keep fighting for what you believe in, you will eventually be screwed one way or another.
