My friend has always been a little too ambitious. His stories of grandeur and wealth have always been a little too far-fetched to be true.
I came home from overseas only to find him in a pretty tight spot. He told me that his mother owned a building in the Tanjong Pagar area and that he needed money to pay his phone bill.
I was taken aback. I knew his family had money, but I had no idea that they were that wealthy. I was intrigued and wanted to know more about this building and how he was going to pay his phone bill. He told me that the building was owned by his mother, and that she had used it as an investment. He said that she had made a lot of money from it and that he was going to use some of that money to pay his phone bill.
I was skeptical. I had heard a lot of lies from my friend in the past, so I decided to do a little research. I went online and searched for the building in question. Lo and behold, there was no building owned by his mother in Tanjong Pagar. I was confused and asked him why he lied to me. He just shrugged and said that he thought it sounded better than saying he was broke.
I was disappointed in my friend. I thought he was better than that. I understand that people sometimes have to stretch the truth in order to make their stories sound more interesting, but this was a blatant lie. He was not only lying to me, but he was also lying to himself. He was trying to convince himself that he was wealthier than he actually was.
I told him that he needed to be honest with himself and with others. He needed to face reality and accept his current situation. He needed to understand that his mother did not own a building in Tanjong Pagar and that he needed to find other ways to pay his phone bill.
