Many people posted about how expensive our vege rice aka Cai Peng has become. I understand where you are coming from. But we also gotta understand these hawkers and coffeeshop stall owners, they are facing huge inflation like us. One day, Singapore will become like Australia (a country I love to retire in). Cooked food will become expensive and perhaps many will start to prepare own food/lunch. Think of the pros, healthier food.
So let’s give these stall owners a break, they are also making a living.
Cheers
Here are what netizens think:
- Raising price is one thing. But you don’t simply raise the damm price and than cut down the ingredients too. If you want to raise price at least maintain the standard. If they raise the price and cut down the ingredients who can we find the blame? Government? Stall owner? Or their rental prices. People always say support those hawkers but these hawkers always taking us consumers for granted. Raising the prices but not maintaining their standard. I might as well eat fast food which is better got drinks and sides…
- This is a fact – businesses, don’t need your pity. the cai fan industry is largely monopolized by the Msian syndicate, they can get meats / vegs at a severe under cost. Some times if you happen to walk past certain shops late at night, you can spot those big container size lorry faster dropping off their supplies. Those ingredients cost is no where near inflation levels. They are in fact surviving very well even if rentals increase.
- So their inflation was caused by rising rents from the hawker stall which was managed by the government. There is a Chinese saying “羊毛出在羊身上” who started all these rental increase frenzy? If the government never increase these rentals. Would the price increase so much too? Or even the private sector would follow as a result? Then the people at the top would say “It’s ‘market’ driven”.
- Yesterday and today I ate one meal only and its $60. I also dont complain.
