
The defendant, Govindarajan S/O Thiruvengadam Uthirapathy, pleaded guilty to the High Court this morning that he had attempted murder. A theft charge was also considered by the judge for his sentencing.Â
The defendant was sentenced to jail for three years and three months this morning.
The incident occurred on April 6, 2018, around 5 pm at a HDB unit located along Woodlands Street 32.
“Go die! Life is meaningless!”
Govindarajan went to the kitchen to find a plastic bag and walked to his wife who was lying on the sofa watching TV; he yelled at his wife, and put the plastic bag on his wife’s head, then tried to strangle his wife while shouting at her “Go die! Life is meaningless!”
The wife struggled desperately before losing consciousness, she then fell to the ground. According to the court document, the wife struggled up to three minutes before losing consciousness.
The defendant took the opportunity to remove the gold chain from her neck and took her wallet as well. He quickly left the house to meet with his mistress. He pawned the gold chain and got $4,250 in cash.
He used his wife’s money to buy clothes and other items for the mistress.
The man and his mistress wanted to escape to Malaysia the next day but they were arrested at Woodlands Custom
