
Tan Shiaw Wee, 47, reportedly took off his mask and coughed at a temperature taker at a supermarket during a confrontation and coughed at her.
He was sentenced to five weeks jail earlier today (23 September).
Tan pleaded guilty to one charge of harassment and an offence under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act, one more count of using criminal force was also taken into consideration during sentencing.
Background story
Tan was at a Sheng Siong Supermarket at Bukit Batok withdrawing money from an ATM when he noticed a 52-year-old female crowd controller and temperature taker take off her mask partially for two seconds to wipe away her sweat.
He then scolded her and picked up a hand sanitiser nearby to spray at her.
The woman then told a female customer (whom she was taking temperature of) that he would take a photo of Tan and make a police report.
Tan overheard this, walked towards the woman and removed his mask to cough at the victim before he left.
The victim felt the “spray” from the cough and was afraid she was infected with the coronavirus.
For harassment, Tan could have been jailed for up to six months and fined up to $5,000.
