The blaze broke out at a warehouse located along Gul Crescent, with emergency services receiving the alert at approximately 3am. Thick smoke could be seen rising from the area as firefighters rushed to contain the flames.

SCDF deployed around 80 firefighters and 20 emergency vehicles at the peak of the operation, making it one of the larger industrial firefighting efforts seen this year.

Fire Involved Waste Materials And Chemicals

According to SCDF, the fire engulfed a warehouse roughly the size of a football field. The affected premises belong to HLS Environmental, a licensed waste disposal company that handles various forms of waste including electronic waste, plastics, paper products and scrap metal.

Authorities said the fire involved waste materials and chemicals stored within the facility. Firefighters utilised seven water jets, two firefighting machines and two aerial monitors to combat the flames and prevent the fire from spreading beyond the warehouse.

After several hours of intensive firefighting efforts, the blaze was successfully extinguished at around 10am.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Damping-Down Operations Continue

Although the main fire has been extinguished, SCDF said damping-down operations are continuing throughout the day. This process involves cooling down hotspots and smouldering materials to prevent the fire from reigniting.

As a precautionary measure, SCDF officers monitored the site for potentially hazardous substances following the fire. No dangerous materials were detected during the checks.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Photos from the scene showed firefighters continuing their operations while smoke lingered over parts of the industrial estate.

Industrial Fires On The Rise In Singapore

The incident comes amid a rise in industrial fires across Singapore.

According to SCDF’s latest annual statistics, there were 125 industrial premises fires recorded in 2025, representing a significant increase from the 98 cases reported in 2024.

Industrial fires formed part of the 471 non-residential fire incidents attended by SCDF in 2025, compared to 415 such cases the year before.

Electrical faults remained one of the leading causes, accounting for nearly half of all fires occurring at non-residential premises.

The Tuas fire is the latest in a series of major industrial incidents in recent months, highlighting ongoing concerns over fire safety and risk management within Singapore’s industrial sector.

Authorities are expected to release further details once investigations into the cause of the blaze are completed.
