On Monday 1 February 2021, a woman 40 years-old was sentenced to 3 years in jail after hitting a mentally handicapped woman with a baseball bat while chaining her to the toilet bowl. She was also told to pay the victim $1,000 for compensation.
During 2016, the victim had taken refuge from the culprit after leaving her own home. This was when the abuse to her started.
Due to her illness, the culprit treated her as an easy to bully target and making the victim do whatever she wanted.
The culprit with her sister and mother began to abuse her by using pliers to twist her toes, using a hammer to knock her teeth, and even splashing her with hot water. Suffering from burnt and bruises instead of seeking medical help she applied medicine to her wounds herself.
The victim tried to escape but was caught and forced to go back to their house. She was treated like a slave doing all the chores and taking care of the kids without being paid.
According to the law for wrongful confinement, the culprit could be facing a jail term of 4 years, a fine of up to $3,000 of both.
