MOH: EXPECT TO SEE MORE OMICRON COMMUNITY CASES IN THE FOLLOWING WEEKS

MOH said in an update on 5 December that persons who have recovered from Covid-19 face a higher likelihood of being reinfected with the Omicron variant.

They added that the Omicron variant may be more transmissible as compared to the Delta and Beta variants, and poses a higher risk of reinfection.

MOH said that Singapore must expect to detect more cases at our borders and in time, within our community.

They also added that there are many questions about the Omicron variant with no clear answers at the moment.

However, the existing Covid-19 vaccines still work against the mutated virus in protecting against severe illnesses.

MOH also added that the cases who have been infected with the Omicron variant have mostly displayed mild symptoms, and that no deaths have been reported thus far that are related to the variant.
