According to the Ministry of Manpower(MOM), working at home is the default setting for those that are possible. However, there are still many companies that think very backwards that working in the office is better.
Here is what MOM posted on Facebook,
“With the number of locally transmitted cases on the rise, limiting interactions in public spaces such as workplaces is critical to reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The Ministry would like to remind all employers that work-from-home remains the default today.
This means that employers must allow all employees who are able to work from home to do so. For employees who are unable to work from home due to the nature of their work or when employees are required to return to the workplace on an ad hoc basis for work that cannot be done from home, employers should clearly explain to these employees why they are required to be back at the workplace.
We also encourage employees to clarify their concerns with their employer.Since the start of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) on 16 May 2021, MOM has received over 3500 pieces of feedback relating to workplace SMM.
Some of this feedback could have been averted if employers had made adjustments to allow their employees to work from home or communicated their operational needs clearly.
Arising from this feedback, our investigations led to enforcement actions against 66 companies for failing to comply with SMM at workplaces. We need everyone’s cooperation to break the chains of transmission and keep Singapore safe and healthy.”
