The incident occurred at 9:30 pm on December 9 2018, at a supermarket in Junction 8 shopping centre. The mother pleaded guilty in court for and she was fined S$2,500.
The court revealed that the defendant was pushing a baby stroller and taking her 18-month and 6-month baby to the supermarket. Investigations revealed that she had stolen 28 daily necessities, including chocolate, snacks, drinks, instant noodles, face cream, laundry detergent, toothpaste, bananas and luncheon meat.
She stuffed all these items into three eco-friendly bags and use the baby stroller to cover her spoils from the crime before leaving.
However, supermarket security became suspicious of her nervous behaviour, so she followed and observed her before she entered the MRT station. She also reported the incident to her manager.
When the manager arrived, the defendant claimed that she was only feeding milk to her babies outside the supermarket, and stated that she had informed the supermarket staff before stepping out of the supermarket. However, the manager verified with the staffs and found that none of the staff had spoken to her, and she was obviously lying.
The manager then recovered all the items she stole for a total of $291.80.
