A video emerged online showing a mtoorcycle beating a red light at a traffic junction and resultantly crashing into an MPV.
The incident happened on 6 July at about 5.30pm, at the traffic junction of Bukit Panjang Road, and was captured on the dashcam of another vehicle that was present at the time.
The motorcyclist was seen in the video riding on despite the traffic light being red, and at the same time, a black MPV from the opposite side was making a right turn.
The motorcyclist then crashed into the black MPV and laid down on the ground in a heap, as the MPV’s front bumper came off from the impact.
Smoke also started coming out of the MPV’s hood.
Potential penalties
It is an offence to beat a red light in Singapore.
Drivers found guilty of failing to conform to traffic light signals face a composition fine of $400 for light vehicles and $500 for heavy vehicles.
They also face 12 demerit points and if a driver accumulates 24 or more demerit points within 24 months, their license will be suspended.
