MSE – NUMBER OF SAFE DISTANCING AMBASSADORS TO BE REDUCED

The Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) said yesterday (24 April) that the number of Safe Distancing Ambassadors (SDAs) that they deploy will gradually be reduced.

This is in light of the Covid-19 restrictions in Singapore being eased.

There are about 2,000 SDAs at the moment being employed across the different government agencies, with MSE adding that the government will offer employment assistance to SDAs who need it.

This will allow the SDAs to join other sectors as the economy improves, with the labour market also tightening at the moment.

Enforcement Officers will however, still be required, what with the safe management measures still in force in some settings.

Enforcement Officers are different from the SDAs in the sense that they are authorised to conduct and investigate SMM breaches.

MSE added that firm enforcement actions will continue to be taken against those who do not comply with the prevailing SMM measures.
