On Saturday(May 29), Malaysia reported a total of 9,020 cases, the highest number of cases since the start of the pandemic. This has been the fifth straight day of record cases, with the total number of Covid-19 cases reaching 558,534
On Friday, Malaysia announced a two-week lockdown to curb the rising daily cases starting from next Tuesday.
SME Association of Malaysia president Michael Kang said that the group supports the move, and hope that there will be a solution to keep businesses afloat.
“From our own survey, we found that a total lockdown might lead to a 40 per cent shutdown of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises). So the government needs to come up with a win-win solution for all, ” said Mr Kang.
He also urged the Malaysian government to start nationwide swab testing to locate the source of the infections and stop the spread of Covid-19.
