Wee Ka Siong, the Malaysian minister of transport, said on 30 December that they will announce the decision on whether to resume or postpone the air Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with Singapore before 21 January, within 48 hours.
Wee said that if the air VTL resumes, the number of flight tickets will be reduced by up to 50%.
He added that the decision on the air VTL will be depending on Singapore’s assessment of the Covid-19 situation, in light of the Omicron variant spread.
Singapore previously announced on 22 December that sales of new VTL air and land tickets were frozen from 23 December to 20 January, with Malaysia also saying that their airlines and bus operators will also stop selling tickets to Singapore at the same time.
However, those who have already bought their VTL tickets are still allowed to travel during the period.
Different jurisdiction
Wee also added that a discussion was held with Singapore’s transport minister, S Iswaran on 21 December where he was told that Singapore decided to postpone the VTL.
He added that the land VTL was not under his jurisdiction and is dependent on the Malaysian Ministry of Internation Trade and Industry to make the decision.
