Two schoolboys in Malaysia were arrested after a viral video of them criticising the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam paper (equivalent to Singapore’s O-Levels) for asking a question about Singapore.
The secondary schoolboy was seen in a now-deleted TikTok video that went viral, insulting the person who created the questions, saying: “whoever prepared the questions for the SPM History paper, F-you,” as he pointed a middle finger at the camera.
A question was apparently asked in the exam paper about Singapore, and the boy then directed his unhappiness at Singapore, saying that he despised us.
He said, “Singapore is nothing but a kampung, they are poor and even their water comes from Malaysia, why are they being included in our exam paper?”
He said that the exam was a waste of time because the topic that he studied for, didn’t come up in the exam questions.
The district police chief of HUlu Selangar, Superintendent Suffian Abdullah, said that the two 18-year-old schoolboys were arrested after a report was filed by a teacher.
Supt Suffian said that the viral video on social media showed a male student in his school uniform expressing his unhappiness with the SPM History paper and using vulgar words to criticise those who set the questions, as well as insulting Singapore.”
The students were arrested at their homes by the criminal investigation department of the district’s police headquarters, and their phones were also seized.
The police also conducted urine tests for drugs on them and it came back negative.
They are currently being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1995 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.
