The woman, identified as Nur Asyiqin binti Dalil and known online as @ekyn.wong, issued a statement through her lawyers following days of intense criticism on social media. She has since disabled comments on her TikTok account after the controversy gained widespread attention.

According to her statement, legal proceedings have already begun against individuals who allegedly published defamatory remarks, made baseless accusations and spread false information about her online.

She warned that anyone who continues to disseminate false or defamatory content may also face legal consequences.

Lawyers Claim Family Has Received Threats And Harassment

A separate statement released by her legal representatives said that various online posts and comments directed at Asyiqin contained accusations, insults and defamatory statements.

The lawyers alleged that the online attention has affected not only Asyiqin, but also her family members and those close to her. They reportedly received criticism, insults, harassment and threats from members of the public following the viral incident.

The legal team also claimed that personal information and details relating to her business activities were exposed and circulated online, causing reputational damage to both her and her family.

According to the statement, the controversial videos reflected her personal views and were not intended to represent the opinions of everyone who appeared in the recordings.

The lawyers further stated that Asyiqin fears for her safety and that of her family due to the negative reactions she has received online, including abusive remarks and alleged threats.

Viral Videos Sparked Widespread Backlash

The controversy began after several videos, originally uploaded to TikTok and later reshared across other social media platforms, showed a group of Malaysian tourists making derogatory remarks while travelling in China.

In one clip, members of the group were seen covering their noses while queuing to board a bus, with one person allegedly shouting in Malay and questioning whether locals had showered.

Another video reportedly showed comments directed at an e-hailing driver, with one individual claiming that “Chinese people smell bad” and accusing locals of poor hygiene habits.

The videos quickly went viral, triggering condemnation from internet users in Malaysia, China and elsewhere. Many criticised the group’s behaviour as disrespectful, embarrassing and damaging to Malaysia’s image abroad.

While the original videos have since been deleted, the incident has reignited discussions about responsible tourism, online accountability and the fine line between legitimate criticism and online harassment.

At the same time, some internet users pointed out that while public figures and content creators should be held accountable for their actions, sharing private information, issuing threats and targeting family members could potentially cross legal boundaries.

The matter remains ongoing as legal proceedings move forward.
