The incident reportedly took place on Feb. 20, with police receiving a call at about 7.08pm regarding a fight at a residential property. Officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after the report was lodged.

According to local reports by The Star, investigations at the scene suggested that the suspect had used a sharp object believed to be a can opener to stab her mother in the neck.

Victim In Stable Condition After Hospital Treatment

The victim, who is in her 80s, was taken to hospital for medical attention. Authorities confirmed that she was transported to a nearby medical facility and is currently in stable condition.

Kuala Pilah district police chief Superintendent Muhamad Mustafah Hussin stated that the suspect is the biological daughter of the victim. She was arrested at the scene and has since been placed in custody to assist with investigations.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the motive behind the alleged assault remains unclear. Police have not ruled out the possibility that mental health issues may have played a role in the incident, though investigations are still ongoing.

Seven-Day Remand Granted As Investigations Continue

Under Malaysian law, the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which relates to voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon or dangerous instrument. If convicted, the offence carries significant penalties including imprisonment and possible fines.

National news agency Bernama reported that the suspect has been granted a seven-day remand order beginning Feb. 21 to facilitate further investigations.

Domestic violence cases involving elderly family members have increasingly drawn public concern across the region, highlighting the importance of early intervention and accessible mental health support. While this case occurred in Malaysia, it also serves as a reminder across Southeast Asia of the need for stronger family support systems and accessible community resources.

Police have urged members of the public to refrain from speculation as investigations are still underway. Further updates are expected once authorities complete their inquiries and determine the next course of action.
