NCID DIRECTOR: S’PORE’S COVID-19 SITUATION MORE DANGEROUS THAN BEFORE CB

He said that there are currently many unlinked cases, suggesting that the community spread from the Changi Airport cluster may be “wide and far”.

On 16 May, the number of new community cases jumped from 39 in the previous week, to 131.

Unlinked community cases also increased from 6 the week before, to 32.

He highlighted that this year, we are facing a mutant strain as well, that have infected hospital and airport personnel despite them being masked and vaccinated.

Lye urged everyone to stay at home and avoid crowded places due to the “serious” situation, and also to get vaccinated as soon as possible and wear a mask even when strolling in parks.
