Broke my heart to see these two elderly uncles – one at 79 years old (left) and the other 75 years old struggling to do their chores at a coffeeshop off Tiong Bahru. They barely earn $800/month working 8 hours from 7am to 3pm 6 days a week.
Both broke into a rare smile as they took hold of our Chinese new year angpow.
Both said that they need to work to make ends meet – one is single and the other has two daughters but not doing well themselves.
The government has mentioned that they wont leave anyone behind in their last election campaigning slogan – looks like they have broke their promise time and over again.
They have constantly ask for public’s help to provide assistance to the poor while trying to use the elderly cause to increase GST this year.
How long more can we trust them?
