Remanded at IMH

She has been remanded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for psychiatric observation.

Phoon was given 5 charges for not wearing a mask, as well as a 6th charge for exposing others to the risk of infection when there was reason to suspect she was a carrier of Covid-19 in June 2020.

Her latest offence includes her taking off her mask to smile at reporters outside the State Courts yesterday following her trial.

The prosecutor asked for Phoon to be remanded for 2 weeks at IMH.

Phoon was unrepresented and appeared in court via a video conference link from her place of remand, with her nose notably not being covered by her mask.

“I was an ex-Naval officer”

Phoon said:

“I am a professional. I was an ex-Naval officer and I have a good conduct in my history. I have residence in Singapore and I see no reason why I need to be remanded.”

District Judge Adam Nakhoda then replied that the investigating officer’s report stated that Phoon failed to comply with the requirement to wear a mask in public several times, asking her what she had to say about that.

Not familiar with requirement to wear mask

Phoon replied:

“Well Your Honour, I am not familiar with this new requirement that requires me to wear a mask. I have never read any information that I have to wear a mask and so that’s why I did not do so.”

The judge then ordered her to be remanded for 2 weeks at IMH.

Recap

Phoon was seen refusing to put on a mask and challenging a Safe Distancing Ambassador to show her “badge”.

She was then seen trying to enter Central Mall without a mask and being refused entry.

Phoon was also seen shopping for groceries without wearing a mask.

The police were also seen confronting her at a carpark for not wearing her mask, and she was later revealed to be under investigation by the police.

Her antics have also spawned a series of memes, including a DeepFake video of her singing “Who Let The Dogs Out”, as well as her becoming emojis and stickers on Whatsapp.

Her father also revealed that she used to be kind and charitable.
