For the past few years, I have been serving reservist in the army and I am holding the rank of a 3SG. I am at my third cycle this year and had just finished a two low keys in camp.
My unit is looking to promote somebody
To be very honest, I find it a waste of time but at the same time, it is a good break from the hectic work schedule that I have and also a good time to meet my mates who served with me back in the past.
Recently, my platoon sergeant whose command I am under got appointed to be the CSM because the actual CSM was posted to work overseas for a few years and they are looking for someone to promote so that he can take over the Platoon Sergeant role.
All eyes of the command team are on me as I am the most eligible candidate left due to me being able to bond with my men easily as well as make them cooperate with the activities during reservist without any complains.
Sincerely hoping that they don’t promote me because higher rank means higher fine for defaulting IPPT
To be honest, I am praying every day that they don’t promote me because a promotion would mean that if I default on my IPPT and get charged, the fine would be higher because my rank is higher.
It is not that I cannot pass my IPPT, but my results have been dropping from a Gold to a Silver and now just a Pass with incentive as I get older and busier with work.
I simply don’t have the time to exercise and I am worried that I might end up not having the time to go for my IPPT or end up failing my IPPT and need to go for RT which I simply don’t have the time to.
I understand the need for promotions in the army so that people can be put into command.
But in my case, I’m not looking for that kind of recognition.
I’m perfectly content with my current rank and position, and I definitely don’t want to risk the potential higher fines that I could end up getting.
