Dr Jeremy Fernando, a Tembusu College don was sacked recently by the National University of Singapore after being accused of sexual conduct. It was stated that he had behaved inappriately as a teaching staff.
It was believed that Dr Fernando kissed and groped a student when she was drunk and even performed oral sex on the student. But it did not stop there as the victim stated that Dr Fernando made increasingly informal contact that grew in intensity and frequency. He even pressured the victim into various sex acts and told her not to inform her friends.
The second victim also stated that Dr Fernando tried touching her at her apartment after having some drinks at a restaurant. He even tried to kiss her. He then told her not to tell anyone on what he did as he may lose his job.
The issue was reported to the university by both victims but they were disappoint with the school’s response. The school only took action after the issue surfaced on social media.
The university has yet to make a clarifying statement and avoided answering the victims’ request head-on stated Mr Gurprit Singh who is an alumnus of Tembusu College.
In NUS latest statement, they did not mention the nature of the cases, the findings of the investigation or what actions NUS plan to take.
