An old video claiming to show a woman being abducted in broad daylight in Malaysia has resurfaced online and is once again circulating on social media, alarming many viewers.
The viral post alleged that two men posing as police officers attempted to kidnap a woman while she was dining with a companion in the Pandan Perdana area of Kuala Lumpur.
However, the incident is not recent.
According to previous Malaysian police reports, the case actually occurred on 23 August 2020 in Ampang, Selangor.
Woman Dragged Out Of Restaurant After Men Claimed To Be Police Officers
The widely shared message claimed that a couple had just finished a meal when the male companion went to the restroom.
During that time, two men approached the woman, identified themselves as police officers and demanded to see her identification documents.
The suspects then allegedly attempted to extort money from her.
When the woman tried to flee, she was reportedly dragged out of her seat and towards a car park area.
Fortunately, several bystanders intervened after hearing her cries for help, allowing her to escape.
One suspect was eventually apprehended by members of the public before police arrived.
Incident Happened In 2020, Not 2026
Netizens were quick to point out that the viral post was misleading because it omitted the original date.
According to Malaysian media reports from August 2020, the victim was a 29-year-old Chinese national working as a salesperson.
Authorities later revealed that one of the suspects arrested was actually a suspended police corporal.
Police said three men had pretended to be officers before attempting to rob the victim.
Two suspects managed to flee, while one was detained at the scene.
The case was investigated under Malaysia’s laws relating to armed gang robbery.
Separate Setia Alam Molestation Case Also Shared
The post also included another unrelated incident involving a woman in Setia Alam.
According to Malaysian police, a woman in her 20s was allegedly attacked from behind while walking home after work.
The suspect reportedly dragged her into an alley and molested her before she managed to escape.
Police launched investigations under Section 354 of Malaysia’s Penal Code.
Authorities have urged women, especially those travelling alone at night, to avoid isolated areas and remain alert to their surroundings.
