PARENTS OF ILLEGAL PMD KIDS NEED TO BE JAILED OR FINED. CHANGE MY MIND.

I’m responding to the food delivery rider’s post just now because honestly, I am so bloody triggered. Bro, first of all, sorry about your delivery order. We all know how hard you guys work, and to have your rice bowl disrupted because of some brainless, entitled punk is completely unfair. You have my full, 100% support.

But can we talk about the real culprits here? The government needs to wake up and stop just catching the kids. Govt need to catch the parents also.

These secondary school kids don’t magically spawn thousands of dollars to buy high-end, heavily modified PMDs from illegal Telegram syndicates. Where does the money come from? Obviously from the parents! If the kid is under 16 and caught riding an illegal, non-compliant, fire-hazard PMD, the parents should face jail time or heavy fines. Let’s see if they still want to give allowance so easily when their own freedom is on the line. Right now, there is zero accountability for the adults. The kid gets a slap on the wrist, the PMD gets confiscated, and the parents just give them more cash to buy another one the next week. It’s a joke.

Go to Yishun and Jurong and see for yourself. Literally every single day you can spot these underaged speed demons zig-zagging through crowds. They ride like they have nine lives, zooming across zebra crossings without looking, swerving between elderly uncles walking home from the wet market, and scraping past toddlers. It’s total lawlessness.

By funding this behavior, these parents are actively enabling future roadkills. They are literally paying for their children to either kill someone else on the footpath or get crushed by a tipper truck on the main road. If you hand a deadly, modified vehicle to an untrained, reckless child, you are a horrible parent, period.

If LTA and SPF want to actually solve this problem, stop just playing cat-and-mouse with the teenagers. Go straight for the source. Drag the parents to court. Charge them with negligence or contributing to a public nuisance. Make the penalty so severe that every parent in Singapore will start checking their kid’s bags and monitoring their bank accounts. Enough is enough.

  1. Fully agree. In Singapore, the fastest way to make people behave is to touch their wallet or threaten jail time. Hit the parents where it hurts and watch how fast these illegal PMDs disappear from Jurong and Yishun.
  2. Unpopular opinion but jail time might be too harsh, maybe just a mandatory community service where the parents have to clear up accident sites or shadow LTA officers for 50 hours. Let them see the danger firsthand.
