Passenger Removed from AirAsia Flight: “WHY STEWARD CANNOT SPEAK MANDARIN”

A woman was removed from an AirAsia flight travelling from Chongqing to Kuala Lumpur after allegedly causing a disturbance prior to departure, in an incident that was captured on video and widely circulated online.

The flight, identified as D7809, was scheduled to depart in the early hours of 22 April. However, tensions reportedly escalated inside the cabin before take-off, leading to intervention by airline staff and local authorities.

Footage shared by passengers on social media later showed a confrontation unfolding inside the aircraft cabin, drawing significant attention after being reposted across multiple platforms.

Onboard Tension Escalates After Phone Recording Incident

According to accounts from fellow passengers, the situation began when a woman was seen speaking loudly on her phone before departure. Another passenger reportedly filmed her during the incident, which led to a confrontation.

The woman allegedly demanded that the video be deleted and that the passenger apologise. She reportedly expressed frustration that her phone activity had been recorded, arguing that she had done nothing wrong as the aircraft had not yet taken off.

The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated exchange, prompting cabin crew to step in and attempt to de-escalate the situation.

Language Barrier Adds to Mid-Air Confusion

During the intervention, a flight attendant initially addressed the situation in English, which reportedly further agitated the passenger. She claimed she could not understand the language used and questioned why Mandarin was not being used instead.

She also reportedly stated that, as a Chinese national, she expected communication in Mandarin and criticised the perceived lack of language accessibility on the flight.

A second crew member later approached and spoke in Mandarin in an attempt to clarify the situation and resolve the misunderstanding.

Despite this, the passenger continued to question the decision-making process and demanded compensation, arguing that her travel plans were being disrupted without justification.

Authorities Step In and Passenger Is Removed

As the situation remained unresolved, airport security personnel were called onboard. Police officers reportedly boarded the aircraft and instructed the passenger to calm down while also asking other travellers not to continue filming.

After further discussion, the woman was eventually escorted off the aircraft before departure. The removal allowed the flight to proceed without further delay.

Before leaving, she reportedly requested that the passenger who recorded the incident send her the footage as evidence.

Airline Disruption Highlights Onboard Conduct Expectations

The incident has drawn attention to passenger behaviour policies and airline procedures during pre-flight operations. Under standard aviation safety rules, cabin crew are authorised to manage disruptive behaviour to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.

While differing accounts of the incident continue to circulate online, the case highlights how quickly onboard disagreements can escalate, particularly when recording devices and communication barriers are involved.

As air travel resumes at high volumes across the region, airlines such as AirAsia continue to emphasise the importance of compliance with crew instructions to maintain order and avoid unnecessary disruptions during flights.
