Emergency responders, including specialist rescue teams, were deployed to the scene to free the trapped passenger.

The accident happened at around 8.45am at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 6 and Woodlands Avenue 1.

Lorry Knocked Down Lamppost Before Coming To A Stop

Photos circulating online showed the lorry lying on its left side after apparently crashing into and knocking down a roadside lamppost.

Videos from the scene showed multiple Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police vehicles surrounding the area while members of the public gathered nearby to observe the rescue operation.

Part of the road was also cordoned off to facilitate emergency response efforts and ensure the safety of motorists.

Special Rescue Team Deployed To Free Trapped Passenger

According to SCDF, firefighters and specialists from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were activated after receiving reports of a person trapped inside the front passenger seat.

Rescue personnel climbed onto the overturned cabin and used hydraulic rescue equipment to safely extricate the passenger.

An emergency medical team from Woodlands Hospital was also deployed to provide on-site medical support.

Passenger Taken To Hospital, Driver Assisting Investigations

The trapped 24-year-old passenger was rescued and conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in a conscious state.

Another individual suffered minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital after being assessed by paramedics.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said the lorry is believed to have self-skidded before overturning.

The 30-year-old lorry driver is currently assisting with police investigations.

Investigations are ongoing.

Reminder For Drivers, Especially Commercial Vehicle Operators

While authorities have not confirmed the exact cause of the accident, self-skidding incidents can happen due to wet roads, excessive speed, abrupt steering movements, tyre issues, or unsecured cargo shifting the vehicle’s balance.

Commercial vehicles, particularly lorries with a higher centre of gravity, can be more susceptible to overturning during sudden manoeuvres.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed, remain alert at junctions and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained before heading out.
