
Earlier today (02 Sep), Singapore Prime Minister has given a one-hour long speech in parliament to address the priorities of the government in the next term, and how are the government going to bring the country forward.
PM Lee then described Jewel Changi as the source pride for Singaporeans. Although the aviation industry has suffered a blow due to COVID-19, they will definitely survive and come back stronger.
He then said that Singapore will not only survive the current COVID-19 crisis but will come back better and stronger. Taking the Asian Financial Crisis and the Global Financial Crisis as an example he assured Singaporeans that Singapore will do better, become stronger and more united.
PM Lee added that Singapore was born from a crisis which he was referring to the incident when Singapore separates with Malaysia back in 1965. He then urges Singaporeans not to doubt and fear as jewel will shine once more.
He then quoted what was said to the grassroots leader by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew back in Sep 1965.
“This country belongs to all of us. We made this country from nothing, from mudflats… Today, this is a modern city. Ten years from now, this will be a metropolis. Never fear!”
Prime Minister Lee was later seen holding back his tears while concluding his speech. He said, “Our children and our grandchildren will continue marching forward to build a fairer, ever more just, and equal society.”
