A fire broke out yesterday morning (6 April) at Mufiz Food Corner, a roti prata eatery at Bukit Batok, that saw 20 people evacuated and 1 person sent to the hospital.
Firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) managed to put out the fire, but one person was still injured in the incident, according to 8world News.
The injured victim was sent to the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for treatment, with the cause of the fire still being under investigation at the moment.
The fire took place at Mufiz Food Corner located at Block 632 Bukit Batok Centre, opposite the Bukit Batok MRT Station and beside the McDonald’s outlet.
The fire was so fervent that it even consumed the exhaust of the shop, with flames being seen spewing out of the exhaust pipe on the second level of the eatery.
SCDF fire trucks were also seen parked on the road outside the burning eatery as firefighters commenced with their firefighting efforts, with curious onlookers and passers-by gathering to watch.
Two of the workers at the prata shop had reportedly tried to extinguish the fire themselves using fire extinguishers but despite their efforts, the whole eatery was burnt to a crisp, with the fire also affecting the McDonald’s outlet next door as well.
Because of the smoke emanating from the inferno, more than 20 people inside the McDonald’s outlet had to be evacuated as a result.
The SCDF said that they were alerted to the fire on 6 April at about 8.45 am, and three people had already evacuated from the burning eatery before they reached the scene.
The fire was eventually extinguished using a hose reel and two CAF backpacks, and one person was assessed by SCDF paramedics after suffering redness and blisters on his face, before being sent to SGH for treatment.
