Previously a couple from China was sentenced to two years in jail after obstructing COVID-19 contact tracing.
The case was dragged for two years as they were appealing the judgment. However, earlier today they have given up on the case appeal and decided to serve out their sentences
Back story:
The couple is from Wuhan withheld information about their travel details and the husband 40-year-old Hu Jun was tested positive for COVID-19.
He traveled to various places and did not inform the officer in charge of his whereabouts, 9 days after he wasted tested positive he failed to provide a full list of places he had been to and leave out certain locations such as restaurants and hotels.
He was found guilty of withholding information from contact tracers under the Infectious Diseases Act
His 36-year-old wife Shi Sha was convicted of 4 charges after withholding and providing false information to contact tracing officers.
The woman even said that talking to the contact tracer was a chicken talking to a duck as her analogy of language difficulty, however, the contact tracer was speaking to her in Mandarin.
Jail
Hu Jun was eventually sentenced to 5 months jail and her wife 6 months, they initially wanted to appeal for a lighter sentence and had hired multiple lawyers and submitted various applications for them to return to China but an initial successful application was eventually overturned by the prosecuted.
They have since given up on the appeal.
The man will start servicing his five-month sentence on 17 Jan 2022 and his will wife will start her sentence on May 17.
