A delegation from the Hong Kong police, led by Chief Inspector Lam Pak-kiu, arrived at the airport to retrieve the suspect. Su Kai was swiftly detained by Thai immigration officials, who had been alerted to his arrival on a Thai Airways flight. The suspect was subsequently extradited back to Hong Kong on June 19, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., along with crucial evidence from the robbery, including the stolen handbags and two Van Cleef & Arpels bracelets.

Swift Action by Thai Authorities

Police Major General Cherngron Rimpadee, Commander of Immigration Bureau 2, reported that the Hong Kong police had identified Su Kai as a suspect and issued orders to intercept him before 6:00 p.m. on June 18. The operation was led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Kamonthip Khemnark, who successfully located and detained the suspect within the airport premises. In addition to the luxury handbags, authorities recovered over 20 pieces of evidence, including cash in various currencies.

Major General Cherngron highlighted the importance of international cooperation in combating transnational crime, stating that this rapid apprehension exemplifies effective collaboration in immigration law enforcement. Since the beginning of 2025, Immigration Bureau 2 has denied entry to over 10,581 high-risk individuals and conducted thorough screening interviews with more than 22,000 people.

Details of the Robbery Incident

According to reports from Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post, the robbery took place in a luxury goods store located in the Tsim Sha Tsui district. The suspect, described as heavyset and wearing a black hat and face mask, initially posed as a customer interested in purchasing a white Hermès handbag. After claiming he needed to withdraw cash, he returned to the store, where he managed to incapacitate a 49-year-old female shop assistant by covering her face with a towel.

Upon regaining consciousness, the victim found herself bound but managed to free herself using a cutter. She sought assistance from a delivery person, who helped her contact the police. Authorities confirmed that a total of 14 handbags and Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery worth S$510,000 were stolen during the incident.

This robbery follows a previous high-profile case in November 2024, where three men were captured on CCTV stealing 66 Hermès handbags valued at S$1.7 million from a luxury resale store in Hong Kong. The recent apprehension of Su Kai underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling luxury goods theft and the importance of international collaboration in addressing such crimes.
