A Chinese woman has been arrested in Malaysia after allegedly extorting money from a victim by threatening to release private photographs.
Police say the suspect was detained following an investigation into an alleged blackmail scheme in Kuala Lumpur.
Threatened To Leak Private Photos
According to Cheras District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Rosdi, police received a report about the case at 4.45pm on 8 July.
Investigations revealed that a Chinese national was allegedly demanding money while threatening to expose the victim’s private photographs if payment was not made.
The suspect was arrested on 23 July and remanded until 28 July to assist with investigations.
Investigation Completed
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 385 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, which covers extortion.
Authorities have since completed their investigation papers and submitted them to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.
No additional details about the victim, the amount allegedly demanded, or the relationship between the parties have been released.
