27-Year-Old Chinese Woman Goes Missing After Travelling to Thailand to Meet Online Friend, iPhone 18 Promise Raises Concerns
A 27-year-old woman from Guangzhou, China, has gone missing after travelling alone to Thailand to meet a man she had reportedly befriended online.
The woman, identified by her surname Fu, flew from Guangzhou to Bangkok on 23 October before continuing her journey to Chiang Mai. However, shortly after arriving in the northern Thai city, she reportedly lost contact with her family and friends.
Her worried relatives were unable to reach her through phone calls and messages. After repeated attempts to contact her failed, the family reported her disappearance to the authorities and appealed for help locating her.
Online Friend Allegedly Promised Her an iPhone 18
According to Chinese media reports, Fu had travelled to Thailand specifically to meet a male acquaintance she had met online.
A male friend of Fu, surnamed Zhou, revealed that the man had allegedly promised to give her an iPhone 18 as a present.
Fu was reportedly excited about the meeting and had even prepared a handmade gift for the man before setting off on her trip.
However, Zhou said that both he and Fu’s family had previously advised her against travelling overseas alone to meet someone she only knew through the internet.
Despite their concerns and attempts to dissuade her, Fu decided to proceed with the journey.
Her sudden disappearance has since left her loved ones deeply worried, particularly as they have been unable to establish contact with her since she arrived in Chiang Mai.
Family Preparing to Travel to Thailand
Chinese police have reportedly become involved in the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding Fu’s disappearance.
Her family is currently making arrangements to travel to Thailand, where they intend to approach local law enforcement agencies for assistance.
They hope that cooperation between Chinese and Thai authorities will help establish her whereabouts and speed up the search.
The case has also renewed concerns about the potential dangers of travelling overseas to meet people first encountered online, particularly when the traveller is unfamiliar with the person, their background or their intentions.
Another Chinese Woman Previously Targeted After Arriving in Thailand
Fu’s disappearance comes amid reports of another disturbing incident involving a Chinese woman travelling to Thailand to meet an online acquaintance.
In September 2026, a 24-year-old Chinese woman reportedly arrived in Thailand and boarded a vehicle arranged by the man she was supposed to meet.
However, she was allegedly robbed of her mobile phone and personal belongings shortly after getting into the vehicle.
Fortunately, she managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle and was subsequently helped by members of the public.
Thai police later arrested two local men suspected of involvement in the robbery and continued investigating whether others were behind the incident.
With Fu still uncontactable, her family and friends are hoping for positive news as efforts to locate her continue.
At this stage, there is no confirmed information establishing what happened to Fu after she arrived in Chiang Mai, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain under investigation.
