A pair of mother and daughter who are Chinese nationals pulled the arms of a Myanmar maid to drag her out of a HDB flat after the latter told them that she didn’t want to work for the daughter’s household anymore.
The older PRC woman, Hai Yulan, 57-years-old, also grabbed the maid’s shoulder while her daughter, Bai Yihong, 34-years-old, then rained blows on the victim.
Hai was given a fine of $3,000 after pleading guilty to one count of using criminal force, while her daughter’s case is still pending after being charged with multiple counts of assault.
What happened?
The maid was hired by Bai’s husband and worked for the family on 17 November 2019 – She was unhappy because Bai had hit her on separate occasions.
The maid went to see a doctor on 5 November because she had a stomachache, and was told by Bai to stay with her in-laws because she was scared her son would fall sick as well.
Hai and Bai then went to fetch her home the next day to which the maid refused to go with them, saying that she doesn’t want to work for them anymore.
Bai then scolded the maid and accused her of stealing from them, adding that if Bai had hit her, she should go to the police.
The maid then wanted to call her agent and Bai then shouted at her, telling her to pack up and “get lost”.
The maid then asked her agent to come and get her, to which Bai then pulled her by the arm to drag her out of the flat.
The victim refused to move and Bai then pulled her arm again, along with Hai who joined in and pulled her other arm to drag her out.
Bai then rained blows on the maid as Hai crouched over the victim and tried to push Bai away.
The assault finally ended after the maid started victim, to which Hai then tried to calm the victim down.
The agent was then called by another maid inside the flat, who followed the victim to make a police report.
