According to a Facebook User, Sherry See, she witnesses a group of 7 people gathering at a table in Marine Parade Hawker Centre.
Although 4 safe distancing officers engaged the group, they got brushed off and the group of 7 continued to gather, later on, she was told by an enforcement officer to move her son to an unmarked seat and she was furious as she was in a group 5 from her family and the group 7 that she observed earlier did not face any consequences.
Here is her account of the situation
“I don’t usually get so angry. But this morning, I got extremely upset. 7 to a table at Marine Parade Hawker Centre, with 4 safe distancing enforcement officers in sight. They tried engaging and got brushed off from the group… Then? The enforcement officers did nothing.”
“I was there for about 30 minutes observing this freak show and I even scolded one of the enforcement officers who actually tried to ask my son to move to an unmarked seat, although we were a family and within a group of 5. I questioned him about the group and he told me, but the group was not seating on the marked seats. I flipped!“
“1. Obviously the seats were not properly marked.
2. Social gatherings should be kept within a group of 5
3. Many of them had finished their drinks, but masks were off, chatting away
4. They were obviously not a family, one even remarked saying that they were a bunch of retirees gathering… So what? We need to cut them some slack?”
” I am appalled and upset. We have sacrificed the economy, closing for nearly 2.5 months. Causing job losses, putting people into the brink of poverty, affecting so many lives, especially the lower income. The government had forked out billions to assist, some which went definitely to paying these officers.“
“With the community cases arising again, is it time to cut some slack to people who have no care about others? If one of them have covid19, we would be staring at another increase of 6 cases and more…. With more affecting their families as well.”
“If you cannot fine them on the spot, then don’t get hired. It’s not time to play nice. Because if you are just there for show, then you don’t deserve to get a paid from the fortitude budget.”
“Even another 100 billion budget will not help the economy if we need to close again should the community cases increase. People who cannot understand rules should just be fined after a warning, not risk the entire society because of their misconduct.”
“Restaurants, malls and all SMEs had been subjected to stringent controls about safe distancing. Where is the control here then? Especially in a government-operated entity.“
