A video emerged online by Wake Up Singapore, showing a Muslim woman being allegedly told by a Ryde driver that she cannot listen to prayers inside his car.
The woman captioned via Wake Up Singapore:
“He mentioned that I cannot do that in his car. My response is that I did nothing wrong. It is none of his business whether I am praying or listening to prayers. Which I was not. I was simply just listening to music using my earbuds.”
Cannot listen to prayers
According to the woman in the video, she had put on her earbuds as she boarded his car, to which the driver then allegedly gestured towards her and said that she cannot listen to prayers.
The Ryde driver allegedly told her that if she listened to her prayers, the energy in his car will change.
The appalled woman, then told the driver to let her alight, to which the driver told her “the commission, you have to pay you know”, which the woman agreed because she just wanted to get out of the car.
Driver suspended
Ryde then released a statement on Friday and apologised, saying that they are investigating the incident and that the driver in question has been suspended.
The woman in the video was also provided with a full refund.
