SBS BUS STUCK AT HDB CARPARK GANTRY AFTER WRONG TURN, BUS CAPTAIN TO BE PUNISHED

On Sunday, January 21, an SBS Transit bus found itself in an unusual situation when it ended up at a carpark gantry in Bedok after the driver made a wrong turn.

The incident, caught on camera, showcased the community spirit as members of the public came forward to assist in maneuvering the bus out of the tight spot. SBS Transit has confirmed that the bus captain responsible for the mishap will face disciplinary action.

Wrong Turn at Bedok North Road

The incident unfolded around 2:40 pm on January 21, as reported by eyewitnesses and captured in footage circulating online. The SBS Transit bus, operating Service 8, mistakenly turned into an open-air carpark designated for HDB Blocks 701 to 705 along Bedok North Road.

The eyewitness, passing by the area, observed the bus attempting to reverse away from the carpark gantry. Several members of the public gathered around the vehicle, providing guidance to the bus captain (BC) as they navigated the tight space. A video recorded by the witness documented the collaborative effort to safely extract the bus from the challenging situation.

The witness noted that passengers were aboard the bus during the incident, suggesting that the driver might have made a wrong turn, leading to the unexpected detour into the carpark.

SBS Transit’s Response and Disciplinary Action

Grace Wu, a spokesperson for SBS Transit, confirmed the incident and expressed gratitude to the members of the public who assisted. The three individuals who stepped forward facilitated the removal of the bus from the gantry, allowing it to resume its journey within five minutes without skipping any bus stops.

Ms. Wu acknowledged the wrong turn made by the bus captain and assured that disciplinary action would be taken. She also issued an apology to the five passengers who were onboard during the unexpected detour.
